American Art
November 7, 2009 1:30 p.m. Tours Sign, Great Hall
Free with Museum admission

This overview of the American Wing includes a sampling of American paintings, sculpture, decorative arts and architectural spaces spanning the 18th through the 20th centuries within the Museum's broad collections.
While the American paintings galleries undergo renovation (until late 2011), selected works by American masters will be available in the first-floor galleries and The Henry R. Luce Center for the Study of American Art on the mezzanine level of the Wing. In addition visitors will see sculptures by such American masters as Augustus Saint-Gaudens and Hiram Powers; furniture from the workshops of John Townsend, Duncan Phyfe, and Charles Honore Lannuier; a wide range of decorative arts, including objects crafted by Paul Revere, Jr. and Louis Comfort Tiffany; and an unparalleled view of American domestic architecture and interior design dating from the late 17th century to Frank Lloyd Wright.
